You'll need at least 4 people to play this game of Pass.
It's a good starting game to get you thinking about, and practising, the skills you'll need to play rugby.
Playing as part of a team can be great fun too!
Let's get going!
Stand in a rough circle. Make sure each player has a number (1 – 4). Throw the ball to each other in order from 1 to 2 to 3 to 4 to 1 and so on.
Practise this until you are confident enough to move to the next part of the game.
How many different ways can you find to pass the ball? (Throwing, bouncing, kicking, heading, chest-passing...)
Move further apart from each other.
Carry on passing the ball to each other in the order of 1-2-3-4-1... but this time move into another space when you have passed the ball.
Make sure you keep an eye on where everyone is!
Use a smaller ball or play with two balls.
Make sure that each player, except one, wears a fabric tag. A tea towel or a scarf might make a good tag.
The person who is not wearing the tag is now going to be the tagger (or attacker).
As the players pass the ball to each other (like before), the tagger runs between the players trying to take the tag off the person who has the ball. If the tagger manages to do this, he gets the ball and has won!
Take turns being the tagger.
