Jar lanterns are so easy to make and wonderful to look at.
You can use them to decorate your garden or the windowsill in your room.
Ask an adult to help you find these items:
Lay out some newspaper before you begin.
This activity can be messy!
First, tear off smallish pieces of light coloured tissue paper.
On the dark coloured tissue paper, draw your three favourite vegetables or fruits and cut them out.
Now, squirt some glue onto a paper plate.
With a brush spread the glue on to a section of the jar.
Then stick on the light coloured pieces of tissue paper making sure you don't leave any blank spaces in between.
Next, brush more glue over each piece to help it stick.
Continue until the whole jar is covered in pieces of light coloured tissue paper.
Very gently stick your vegetable or fruit cut outs in place, and brush some more glue on top.
Leave the jar to dry for a couple of hours.
To make the handle, tie one piece of string around the rim of your jar and attach the other piece of string to it.
Ask an adult to light the candle and put it in the jar.
Enjoy watching your lantern and its beautiful colours as it glows in the dark.
There are many different designs that you could try.
Here is a patchwork version.
Why not make some and give them to your friends as birthday presents?
Remember, children should not play with candles.
Always put the candle out if you leave the room.
