Health information you can trust

World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF UK) and the Great Grub Club provide up-to-date, accurate, evidence-based information on cancer prevention.

The information on our websites and in our publications is based on the findings of our Expert Report, which is the most comprehensive report ever produced on the links between cancer risk and diet, physical activity and weight.

Today, the findings of the Report are kept updated through our Continuous Update Project (CUP).

The Information Standard

World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF UK) is a certified member of the Information Standard.

The Information Standard scheme was developed by the Department of Health to help the public identify trustworthy health and social care information easily.

To achieve the Standard, organisations have to show that they produce information that is:

  • accurate

  • impartial

  • balanced

  • evidence-based

  • accessible

  • well-written

The fact that WCRF UK has been given the Information Standard means the Department of Health is satisfied that the information we produce is based on the best evidence about how people can reduce their cancer risk.

It also means scientific experts and members of the public have reviewed our information to make sure it is of the highest possible quality.

We aim to update our publications and web pages at least every three years so you can be confident that the information in them is kept current.

The Information Standard quality mark

Any Great Grub Club magazines or downloadable resources that are marked with the Information Standard logo have been produced in accordance with the scheme.

Information Standard index

For a complete list of web pages and downloadable resources which are covered by the Information Standard, as well as information sources and review dates, please visit the Information Standard index.

We are also grateful for any feedback we receive from people who use our materials. Any comments are kept on file and considered when we update booklets or web pages. If you have any feedback, please email

General information

The Great Grub Club website is produced by World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF UK) as part of our children's education programme. The website is primarily aimed at 4-11 year olds and strives to encourage healthy eating and an active lifestyle in a fun and informative way. We hope that by visiting our interactive site, children will become familiar with healthy living messages and develop positive habits that will follow them through to adulthood.

Scientific research shows that about a third of the most common cancers could be prevented if we eat healthily, maintain a healthy weight and lead an active lifestyle. Due to the age of the target audience, the Great Grub Club website does not refer to the link between healthy living and cancer prevention, except for in the Teachers and Parents sections. It is our long-term goal that children will be encouraged to lead a healthy lifestyle that could help reduce their risk of cancer in the future.

World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF UK) is registered with the Charity Commission in England and Wales (Registered Charity No: 1000739).

The exception to this is when we are obliged or permitted by law to disclose it. We will not use personal information for any other purpose than that stated when it was obtained and we will not pass this information to a third party.

We stipulate that children (aged 16 or under) need permission from a parent or guardian before sending us a picture, letter or joke, or entering any of the competitions we are running. Without this consent, we cannot accept personal details.

If we decide to change our privacy policy, we will post those changes on this page so that you are always aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances we disclose it.

Children comments policy

Children are welcome to use our ‘Kids, have your say!’ feature to vote for their favourite activities and leave their comments. To protect children’s privacy we only request their first name and age – these fields are not mandatory, but they help us tailor our content better to our users.

When a comment is published, only the child’s first name will appear. If they contribute any other information that reveals personal information, such as surnames, phone numbers, email addresses, home addresses and so on, this will be removed before the comment is published.

The administrator moderates the comments received. We aim to publish a fair balance of positive and negative comments on our comments page. Comments containing abusive language will not be published.
